When companies have product questions or concerns – from small restaurateurs hoping to replicate a famous food product to Fortune 100 corporations testing how a new item will go over on the market – they often turn to Blue Ash-based the Wolf Group. Founder Mona Wolf and her staff of food scientists, marketing researchers, taste testers and sensory experts help clients figure out exactly what consumers like and dislike through complex sensory evaluation processes. They assist in everything from new product development to reformulation, with services from flavor profiling to claim substantiation, concept testing to quality assurance.
As a food scientist, Wolf is trained to tease out the complex components of a product. As a business owner, she works on the delicate balancing act of growing the company while keeping her team – 45 employees and an available panel of 16,000 “naive consumers,” members of the public who volunteer to serve on testing panels – engaged. Her efforts on that front were acknowledged recently, as the Wolf Group was named a finalist in the latest Best Places to Work contest, a Business Courier program in which companies are evaluated based on employee surveys. Wolf talked with Senior Editor Karen Bells about how she creates a working environment that stimulates the senses.
